One difference I can think of is that a gun can be used by an individual for defensive purposes, drugs cannot. So when there are efforts to clamp down on the availability of guns, that can be spun as an attempt to limit (or eliminate) a necessary personal right, the right to defend oneself*. Recreational drugs, however, are really just used to to create an enjoyable experience, which has a lot less of an "it's necessary" justification. I went to the Wellington Gastropub for lunch yesterday, and had scallops, served on a bed of mashed potatoes flavoured with lemon. It was awesome, and since the Loeb near me now has bulk frozen seafood, including scallops, I bought some, about 8 or 10, in the "20/30" size, which I think are medium; each of them will easily fit into a 1/4-cup measuring cup with room to spare. I'm letting them thaw in the fridge, and plan on just pan-frying them tomorrow for dinner; no real added flavours or anything, though the goat cheese sandwich thing sounds interesting. Aloha, Brad

I saw a report on TV a little while ago that said that plastic bags were actually better (in the sense of being less bad) for the environment than paper bags. Plastic bags start out life as natural gas, which is fairly abundant and can be extracted and transported (via pipeline) cheaply and cleanly. Paper bags, on the other hand, start out as trees, which need to be cut down, transported by truck, and put through nasty chemical processes to be refined into paper. I'd want to see the details and the numbers for each process, but it's an interesting perspective. Aloha, Brad
