  1. Bouche we looked at in-store and it's just too big to justify. It would make for uncomfrotable viewing to sit at a desk with that monster. The 20" made more sense for the room it's in and the house we live in. In other news I tried a demo of Age of Empires III and may have soiled myself with excitement.
  2. And here are my thoughts: 1. As a first-time Mac user whose played with this for less than an hour, PC users have nothing to fear in making the switch. 2. It is so fucking cool 3. I hate slot drives, they make me nervous. I mean they work fine but they make me nervous 4. The new keyboard is super slick and quiet. If you like clickety-clack it may not be for you.
  3. Tweedy is a sucky player but he's gotten much better. Ryan Adams is a decent player of G - Bm - C and D but his skills in other facets really make the chording a backseat thing.

    S'mores

Just had smores this weekend - no fancy chocolate just hershey's dark and the usual ingredients. A good technique we used was to get a nice flat rock good and hot in/near the fire and "queue" several graham crackers with chocolate squares on them - by the time they are melty you can make a whole row of smores and then share them or rail them all by yourself.
  5. By drag and drop he means more functionality built into things like Windows explorer I think. At the moment you have to use your iPod as a hard drive to do this and that doesn't keep the same cataloging and sorting functions. I find iTunes cumbersome as well but once you get used to it it's a useful program. One thing they REALLY OUGHT TO FIX is the ability to transfer from your Ipod to another ITunes on another computer. There does not appear to be an easy way to do this and iTunes only lets you do so with purchased songs.
  6. That is to say his meritorious singing/songwriting skills speak for themselves, and it doesn't take Junos and pats on the back to prove anything.
  7. It's more than a feeling it's a downright astute observation!
  8. I like him. Depending on the size of the show he can be pretty fun if you're in the mood for it. As I recall StoneMtn you don't usually drink at concerts so Sam may not quite be what you're looking for when sober.
  9. John Mclaughlin is playing the Dominion Chalmers church here in Ottawa on October 4th...and I got me some tickets and I'm excited as all get out for it.
  10. Uproarious show. I normally hate musical bits in comedic shows but the vignettes in this are great.

    the 100-mile diet

It's going/gone well I'd say. We just came back from a 10-day vacation to the East Coast, which was nice as the 100-mile radius to follow us, consuming shellfish and seafood, local cheeses, low-bush blueberries, etc. A highlight for us was an extravagant meal in Quebec City that featured mostly-local ingredients (Venison terrine, seared deer medallion, wild boar, wapiti and local veg). We're starting to slack a little bit, but we're going to do our best for the next couple of weeks.
  12. How do you define "best homefries"? Because you could go to the Royal oak for sub-par breakfast but tater tots as the homefry if you like that sort of thing. Stoneface Dolly's homefry is a bit like a mashed homefry but it's got spices and what not in it, it's good. Mello's in the market makes the good old fashioned shoestring homefry and you can ask for onions on top. Louis' out in Gloucester tosses their homefries with powdered chicken stock...it is disgusting but some people love it.
  13. You are being mum on the brand and quality of the bike. If it's a shitbox talk to Dave at the bike dump - he's very knowledgeable and always entertaining. However he uses really cheap parts that are only worthwhile if you're looking to spend the bare minimum in keeping your bike going. I like the guys at Foster's more than Tommy and Lefebvre if it's a mid-range bike. And I don't ride and have never ridden a fancy bike so in that class someone else might know.
  14. Spaghetti and Meatballs...your place..sometime soon. Happy B-Day too.
  15. I don't know why I never did this before, but you can create a really fun and interesting feedback loop with your amp by running a patch cord from the line out or preamp out back into the input jack. For safety's sake start by zeroing your master volume and channel volumes. On my solid state amp if I start manipulating the master volume up slowly I can pull out the feedback and use the channel volume to alter it. Then, depending on your instrumentation adjust the bass, treble, reverb etc and make all sorts of happy sounds from your amp. I've got a built-in delay with different settings that really turns the feedback on its end. Once again do make sure you zero all of your output levels before switching on. Raise your knobs slowly until you figure out how each knob changes the sound of the feedback. This trick courtesy of ReadyMade Magazine
  16. The 12-lane highway has always been one of my favorite hillside events. Throwing the slip into that mix will be quite something. Too bad I'm not going this year!
  17. Way to go man, Sony Ericcson no less. I was in a pilot episode of Magician Samraj's show in India. It never got picked up but I got to play the "hapless tourist". I doubt it's on Youtube anywhere but if you want to find out about India's second most popular magician: http://www.magiciansamraj.com/html/marvelousacts.htm
  18. Downey is not a fair comparison because he has a talent he was in danger of losing to drugs. Lindsay has nothing to lose.
  19. Hey Brad I am going to air kiss from our end of the same row.
  20. Hmm...and not to hijack this thread...but I successfully bought two tickets that are RSVD Section I, 9 and 11. I can't find them on any seating chart so who knows where that is. FYI - I bought them from the Ryan Adam's pre-sale area of their website, no password needed just register with an email address.
  21. Where did you buy them? Website says tomorrow at noon.
  22. Bouche what is the connection between Le Pied du Cochon in Hull, and AU pied du cochon in Montreal? I don't think there is any but google the latter...they have a nutty cookbook only in French with fun things like pig's feet and duck poutine and so on. I like Mekong ok but I'm not fanatical about it. It's very safe and their soups are excellent but anytime a chinese resataurant dabbles in thai food I get suspicious of why they can't focus on what they're good at. I had heard good things about Jadeland...talk about atmosphere, the place looks like a 1970's "Chinese Canadian" restaurant in small town Ontario. It brought back bad memories of the shitty chinese restaurant in Heartland, NB that resides in an old church. I haven't found a "favorite" chinese restaurant and would like to find one for when we finish up our 100-mile diet challenge since anything asian is verboten. There's a place called Northern Han on Somerset that one of my chinese coworkers said is really good. It's a bit different than your usual options but they make a mean dumpling. Has anyone been?
  23. When are tickets on sale for this?
  24. Peace Lizard if the variable is MOST selections than it's not the manx. If it's FRESHEST selections than it is the Manx. They keep things clean and offer a nice variety all through the year without trying to offer a hundred things all the time. They're also cheaper than Pub Italia, and their food is beyond pub food and beyond the Pub Italia menu many times over.
