Basher
I am heading to a wedding in a month and need some gift ideas/suggestions. They are good friends, heady, and I have no ideas.Do I just bail out and get something off their registry? As the wedding is in the USA I will have to get something that can be shipped to them - don't want to deal with border hassels.Any help would be appreciated. bradm
One gift I've used a couple of times is a book: Wine For Dummies. If they have an interest in (but not a lot of knowledge of) wine, this is a great gift, because they can read it, try things out, enjoy wine (together), and get up to speed on it.Edit to add: you said the couple lives in the USA. A trial (several-month) membership in a "wine of the month club" is a good companion to the book.Aloha,Brad Edited March 30, 2006 by Guest
backbacon
Get a bunch of twigs and sticks and whip up a heady sticky thing.
Jaimoe
So, they I guess that they're not registered? If they are, you could buy them a gift on-line - since the store(s) may not exist here. It's foolish not to register regardless.
Birdy
i know it sounds pretty unimaginative, but what about cash?i've planned a few weddings in my day and most bride and grooms prefer money. you know, just getting 'started' and all. the registry shouldn't be a last resort.. this is stuff that the couple genuinely wants and have painstakingly taken the effort to sift through catalogues and jot down tiny little reference #s to get. or what about camping gear? i find if they like to camp, you can't really go wrong here. Jaimoe
or what about camping gear? i find if they like to camp, you can't really go wrong here.I'd love to see Basher show up at a wedding with a tent wrapped-up under his arm.
PalacePrincess
getting something off the registry is in no way bailing out. in fact, as a general rule, it's more appropriate to get something off the list or just give them $$$, than to get something different. especially if it is a big wedding. and especially if they have taken the time to register somewhere.most couples register at big places to make it easy for everyone to buy, which will make it very easy to order right online and have it shipped right to them. Jaimoe
I went to my fiance's friend's wedding two years ago. Her friend didn't believe in registering, so it resulted in the friend being angry that she got a lot of duplicate and/or useless Basher-type presents. mattm
Every time I go to a wedding and it's a close family member or good friend I get them a bottle of Dom Perignon. It's slightly costly but you can get the bottom of the line ones for $100 or so at liquor stores. It makes a pretty good gift because it can be saved and opened later (my cousin saved his for 3 years and he and his wife drank it on new years 2000 and a good buddy of mine saved his for his first anniversary, etc, etc). ollie
i know it sounds pretty unimaginative, but what about cash?I always give cash as a wedding present. Unimaginative? Yes. Will it sit in the back corner of the couple's closet? No chance.
