Blurry
about God.Mud and I are moving into an old church and I want to get a good mix CD ready to start it off right. I figure I can fool the higher ups with the music and they won't catch on the other going-ons in there. Off the top of my head I can think of...1) old time religion2) swing low sweet chariot3) Just a closer walk with thee4) I saw the Light5) Thanks. Dr_Evil_Mouse
Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" comes to mind; there must be a dozen Cockburn tunes I could think of, too.

God-themed songs in particular, leaving out all the ones that are more elliptical, or which are more likely just abstract love songs, or instrumentals with religiously-inflected titles...All the DiamondsArrows of LightCreation Dream Cry of Tiny BabeDweller by a Dark StreamGreat Big LoveHand DancingHe Came from the MountainHills of MorningLament for the Last DaysLord of the StarfieldsMy Lady and My LordStrange WatersMysteryWhat about the BondI'm probably missing a couple, though. Esau.
I know you guys will like this stuff, I'm pretty sure anyway. This show was in a church and the band used no amplified instruments or vocals. The taper did a great job getting it. I think it'll fit in your mix. Heres a couple tracks from my googlepage.Stairwell sisters Jump Back (Hambone) Oh Death Heres a link for the entire show. Hartamophone
"I'll Fly Away" is a beautiful traditional spiritual tune. One of the livelier versions I've heard was done by The Word (The North Mississippi All Stars, John Medeski and Robert Randolph), and is entirely instrumental. bokonon
Mud and I are moving into an old church ... awesome! I always thought this would be so cool (or an old school house) where? give the details (and date and time of the housewarming ) My grandma used to live in the schoolhouse in Waterford (or is it Wilsonville? Where the fuck is the boundary?) near Izzy's right on the highway. It's really run down now, but in the eighties when she lived there it was really cool. She had a sewing business in one of the classrooms where my brother, sister and I would play all the time. There were horses next door too, it was really cool. Lots of light too, I remember laying under the houseplants and pretending I was in the tropics. I was such a cute kid.
Blurry
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I downloaded what I could from LimeWire on Saturday at my parent's house and then went home and went through my CDs to make up the rest of the my mix.Phunky B - I would love to get the YMSB version of Jesus on the Main Line. The only version I could come across was by the Mississippi Mass Choir - oh well - it's still pretty good (i'll keep looking)djmelbatoast - funny! If there were such things as coincidences this would be a great one.Schwa - thanks I'll try for No Depression next time I'm home.Nibbler - Alice's restaurant - good call - I'd like to get that movie.Alabama Man - thanks for the link. Backbacon was nice enough to download the show for me. What I've heard so far is great (Mud loves it)Mark/Timouse/Calamity - the church is in Kemble (about 15 minutes north of 0wen Sound).
