Unfortunately, he's been butchering his own legacy going on ten years now. The Stones are still hanging around making subpar and irrelevant records, but at least they aren't selling out by collaborating with those fuckfaces from Matchbox 20 and Nickelback respectively, that lunatic Lauren Hill and that hack piano player/washed up tweeniebopper singer-songwriter Michelle Branch. No desire to see him now though.I love the tone that Derek Trucks gets with his guitar ... it sends shivers through my body when he hits certain notes. hamilton Posted January 10, 2008 Report Share Posted January 10, 2008 I saw Santana three times in the early 90s, the last of which was the show with Rusted Root that Steve mentioned above - and it was, indeed, less than stellar. But the first two gigs were great.Studio-wise, I think Abraxas, III and Caravanserai are excellent, with Santana and Welcome both being good but a step below the other three. Lotus is an incredibly good live album, but I'm crossing my fingers for a good remaster because the sound on the current CD issue isn't the greatest. Jaimoe Posted January 10, 2008 Report Share Posted January 10, 2008 I think that Santana put on one of the only good Live Aid shows (although his collaboration with Pat Metheny that day was a bore). Obviously I take Santana's musical forays personally; I've been a fan since the mid 70's, and I like some of his music from that decade and some of his 80's output. Clapton is a tough sell for longtime fans too - see his frustratingly spotty albums from the mid 80's onwards. However blues saves Claptons ass time and time again whereas Santana love pop, and pop doesn't mesh well with aging rockers. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've got Santana with the Tower of Power & Santana with Trey Band DVDs from the last couple years which show what an awesome player he is and what he is capable of with the right players.
