Bluesfest (Page Six)

No drama from last night. about 100 people backstage for the hip but nothing too wild and crazy. Jose Gonzalez was a real gentleman.

TV on the Radio and Wintersleep were partying together last night and they were planning to go to either Barrymore's or Zaphod's after the festival was closing down - anyone confirm?

Nothing to offer from last night (simply too much professionalism in general) -

Uhh..Feist is short and looks bad without makeup on?

I do want to say "How about that Dave Bidini?". Great musician and really great guy to talk to. I think you may see him at the six shooter showcase today (which comes highly recommended so try and check some of it out).

Just read this in the Citizen. Typical Steely Dan dry humour I think.

Artists can be quirky people, but ahead of last night's Steely Dan show, the group's manager e-mailed Bluesfest artistic director Mark Monahan to request a police escort for Walter Becker and Donald Fagen.

"We've had all kinds of strange requests," said Mr. Monahan, "but this was a new one. They said it was never a problem in U.S. cities. I said it would probably be a problem here, but I'd ask."

Becker and Fagen, the legendary creative core of Steely Dan, arrived by private jet from Montreal and apparently wanted the royal escort so they could avoid red lights and other inconveniences of modern day motoring -- though on a Saturday afternoon in Ottawa, those inconveniences would be minimal.

Mr. Monahan contacted the Ottawa police who even for a fee turned down the request as "an inappropriate use of police time." Mr. Becker and Mr. Fagen, who asked for separate SUVs to carry them from the airport, settled for a Bluesfest van to guide them into the downtown.

from that same Citizen article:

And speaking of quirks, fans at Friday night's Feist show were justifiably upset that the big video screens were black for her entire performance. This was her demand and not some technical issue. If Feist had been standing several hundred rows back, she might have an inkling about why people enjoy watching the screens and why, indeed, her refusal to allow them was selfish and caused a flood of early departures. For an artist with a professed egalitarian view of life, her demand that she remain a dot in the distance for many thousands of her fans was thoughtless.

Why doesn't that surprise me? I really don't get that chick.

I can't wait for the snoop dog and his ho's stories.

Well not that it's a big surprise but after his show he went into the trailer with two chicks, shut the door and turned the lights out. D Oh Double Gee-z!

Regarding the Steely Dan comments I met them both in the morning, they were nice but very quiet. They didn't give off much of an ego but who knows.

The Weakerthans put on a great show but those guys were all fucking assholes (Jim Bryson excepted). If you want an example of a band that no longer gels, and takes their frustration out on the people around them, I direct you to this band. All arrived and departed in different periods, all asking for things that don't IMO fit their stature (ex. "good champagne, a silver bucket and ice") and just generally acting like two-year olds. They nearly took off in Mark Monahan's golf cart for fuck sakes.

Did anyone see Rashid Taha last night? Wow! What a surprisingly great show.
