Schwa.
Found a helmet. Wore it riding last week at Le Massif and found it to be WAY too hot. Other than that, no problem. Also wore mp3 player for the first time and loved that!

Schwa.
It was nothing i really rebelled against or anything and far be it for me to argue with a tree. I love riding the edge of a slope along the treeline and with the speed at which i like to go, it only makes sense.

Hartamophone
Intrawest resorts are starting to institute new helmet rules:LinkThe operator of the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort wants helmets to become standard at its resorts in North America and has launched a campaign to persuade all skiers and snowboarders to wear the protective gear. The changes include the Mount Tremblant resort in Quebec, where actress Natasha Richardson, wife of actor Liam Neeson, had a fall in March. She later died of a blood clot.Starting this season, Intrawest will make helmets mandatory for all children and teens enrolled in ski and snowboard programs and will also include helmets in all rental packages.Helmets will also be mandatory for on-duty Intrawest employees and for anyone using the freestyle terrain parks. The company also plans to upgrade its website and ads to feature helmet-wearing skiers and boarders.Intrawest operates the Panorama resort in B.C., the Mount Tremblant resort in Quebec, and others in Colorado, Vermont and New Jersey. The new rules will be phased in at all the company's resorts over the next two seasons. The Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort will host the alpine ski events and the sliding events for the 2010 Winter Olympics in February. nibbler
I suggest hitting up White Water (sick sick shit)So long as you're skilled on the slopes/you love riding/skiing powder, Whitewater is simply the best. Endless lift accessible backcountry treats. Plan to take a backcountry preparedness course first.
phorbesie
so why don't people wear helmets when skating on the canal? ice is hard.
Kanada Kev
so why don't people wear helmets when skating on the canal? ice is hard.Very hard.Take a look at kids in figure skating lessons too. I know, helmets look a little weird while figure skating, but damn, head injuries are no good.Quality mouth guards protect against concussions too (and lost teeth )

AD
Misleading headline on this article for sure, judging from what I saw on the canal over the weekend. http://www.ottawasun.com/news/ottawa/2010/02/07/12782621.html

jaybone
I haven't been skiing much in the past few years. I am heading to Tremblant this weekend with my family and I don't have a helmet. I'm a bit worried about the message not wearing head protection is sending to my nephews. I might go buy one tomorrow.
YearsAlongTheSea
I would buy one. It's not like Tremblant is an Extreme Mountain, besides the cold, but even a wrong slip on an icy patch could end up ugly...
AD
That's a bad way to think about it for a number of reasons - scientists have done tests that prove that falling on flats at a lower speed can be just as damaging to the head as falling at speed on a steeper decline. The key to that is when falling on a flat the energy of your fall gets absorbed by the body, rather than dispersed along the decline as you fall. (Heck, that study is probably cited somewhere earlier in this thread).

AD
The part that was off-point was your suggestion or inference that the size of hill had some effect on potential injury.
StoneMtn
I understood YATS to be saying that some people might think that a mountain that is "not extreme" doesn't require a helmet, but that those people would be wrong, given that a slip on ice could cause serious damage, too.Isn't it nice when we all agree?
