Gov't Mule tonight

Oh MAN I was just looking on MuleBase and you're right, they've been doing some crazy shit! Personally I would have LOVED to hear this:

quote:

10/10 Encore: Young Man Blues (7) > Good Morning Little Schoolgirl (8) > Young Man Blues

(7) contains Out on the Tiles, Power of Soul, Thick As A Brick and 21st Century Schizoid Man teases; (8) contains Hocus Pocus and other teases

[Eek!] if we get something half a nuts as that sounds, I may need a change of pants.

Peace,

Mr. M.

The show was quite good overall, however, IMO the sets all started and ended strongly, but were a little slow in the middle. For the most part I really enjoyed it, and absolutely loved the venue, I'm gonna keep going back there regardless of what's playing [smile]

Highlights for me included: Thorazine Shuffle, Soulshine, Dreams, the Zeppelin tune (I can't remember which one [Confused] ), Mule, and who can deny a Cortez encore!!

Chris Robinson's band was alright, I really enjoyed the last two songs they played, with this dude who came out playing guitar. Can't remember who he was either...

So here are my 2 cents:

It was my first time seeing Govt Mule, and I was a little disappointed in the show. There were 4 or 5 songs that I really enjoyed, but in the middle of each set there were long stretches of songs with dark, deep bluesy feels, and I really wanted some high energy stuff.

The venue was great, although they have enough bar and bathroom access for 400 people tops, not the estimated 1,200 or so that were there.

It was great seeing a bunch of familiar faces, and nice hanging out at Jaimoe's before the 5 minute walk to the show. Overall I would say I am glad I made it to the show to see what's what, and I would really like to know if that show was a good representation of what a Mule performance is all about.

I'd have to say that it was a great show! Thorazine opener always does it for me. Sco-Mule also rocked the house. Second set was better, though, IMO. Soulshine opener, followed by Trampled Underfoot?!! Not sure Mule have ever played that before. Warren was definitely reading the lyrics on the floor. Blind Man was a little longer than some other versions I've heard and Mule was in your face. When they left the stage, I was thinking "Man, they've played everything I wanted to hear. What more could their be??" But Cortez was the suprise encore. I was ear to ear for that one :>

Great show. Not quite as good as Opera House in February, but killer, nonetheless.

BTW, Craig Ross is Lenny Kravitz's guitarist. He's co-written a bunch of tunes with Lenny and has been touring and recording with him for years, now.

Who can deny that Dreams in the first set?

Great night fer sure.Unreal Cortez, and Dreams with Chris Robinson smoked.I was extremely impressed with the venue, best security I have encountered in Toronto, loved the fact we were escorted to our seats,we were told "Sorry, but your seats are closer to the stage,I will have to ask you to move up!"then wandering up to the stage to run into Bouche & Ms.Hux,drank beers and rested my elbows on the stage, got to love when ya can do that.

Bouche,Booche,Ms.Hux,Sally was great to party with ya'll again, and a massive thumbs up for lettin Geordie & I crash at your room, saved our asses from walkin 'round TO all night.

Jaimoe, great to chill with ya again, did Geordie happen to leave my Risin' Low DVD at your place?I just got it back at the show from a friend I lent it to right after the shaker....shoulda hung on to it myself.

A great night in Toronto,a great show, friends all around, made it a perfect ending to what had started out as a really bad day.

Cheers to the Mule [big Grin]

The Mule show last night was fucking unreal!!! My highlights were ScoMule, !!!DREAMS!!!, Soulshine, Trampled Underfoot, Blind Man in the Dark, CORTEZ. I can't wait to see the setlist because I know I'm forgetting something. Dreams was just so fucking good and a complete surprise.

I need to see this band every chance I get.

Yo!

First of all, Booche & Ms. Hux, so sorry we missed you guys after the show. We hung at the Swan for a bit but having not had dinner we were in pretty desperate need of food, so we wandered away and figured we'd probably have missed ya by the time we got back. Next time, babes.

As for the show, well I all I could really say afterward was FUCK WHAT A SHOW! Mule are truly one of the best bands around today. First time I saw them with keys, definately a nice addition. The highlight for me was "Dreams" 'cus it was so unexpected - I've been looking over recent Mule lists and I'd never seen that one before, so that was extra cool.

And Bouche you're right, Robinson did look like Lennon! Weird.

Peace,

Mr. M.

Dreams was definetly a highlight, I enjoyed the hell outta that. Robinsons vocals on that were awesome! I can't wait to here how the recordings sound!

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the current lineup with the new bass player, and keyboards has altered the sound a bit, at times it felt an awful lot like going to a Phish show. Am I crazy?

What an amazing show!

Govt Mule

Danforth Music Hall , Toronto , ONT

Notes: Chris Robinson and New Earth Mud opened.

Set I: Grinnin' In Your Face, Thorazine Shuffle, Banks of the Deep End, Sco-Mule, I Believe, Temporary Saint, No Need To Suffer, World Gone Wild, Woke Up This Morning*, Dreams I'll Never See*

Set II: Soulshine > Trampled Underfoot, Towering Fool, Blind Man In The Dark, ??? > drumz, Raven Black Night, Mule

Notes: * With Chris Robinson on vocals and Paul Stacey on guitar.

What a night, "I Believe" the rare Ray Charles cover, "World Gone Wild", "Temorary Saint" "BMITD" and the drumz solo were my highlights. If that place had let us go out the side door to piss it would have been THE most perfect theatre I've ever been to. Again, I had an awesome time, great to see everyone out there.
