That would be a great way to look at it if the dead were playing.

Well i'm gonna be shining like the sun out my back door and strolling down the riverside regardless. I was touring with the Grateful Dead when you were still poopin' yer pants so you don't have to remind me what the difference is you young whippersnapper.

I have yet sadly to find a band that can stand next to their mix of traditional song stylings, true improvisation lyrical profundity and social magic so even if they are singing in tribute to themselves it is certainly worth the stroll, the few hundred bucks and the enthusiasm!

...not that there aren't great new bands of course but none that have taken it Furthur....

Was also hoping for Baroness. Sharon Jones is always good at Bluesfest.

More to be announced though. Plus the whole Byward thing.

Just saw the New Pornographers' tour routing and they end the eastern part of the tour on June 28 in St. Louis and start the western leg July 14 in Vancouver. I'd really doubt a one-off here in Ottawa between them. Unless the money was just too good....

Here's their eastern Canada dates:

06-15 Toronto, Ontario - The Sound Academy

06-17 Montreal, Quebec - Le National

both shows with The Dutchess & The Duke and The Dodos opening.

Full band lineup too: A.C. Newman, Blaine Thurier (keys), John Collins (bass, etc.), Todd Fancey (guitar), Kurt Dahle (drums), Kathryn Calder (vox, keys), Neko Case (vox) and Dan Bejar (vox, guitar, etc).

I now see Neko Case is currently in that line up and won't even describe how out of touch I am with all the sun shining out my back door and stuff.

Cool stuff though!

Well I ordered 3 gold pass tickets 5th row for Furthur.....I just never dreamed I could walk out my back door and ten minutes along the river and essentially be at a Dead show....it's all too much!

I won't be walking out my back door and strolling down the river, but I will be sitting behind you in row 6 :rollweed:

I scanned through that a little too quickly but apart from the mammoth highlights it's pretty meh. I'd add Passion Pit and Rural Alberta Advantage to the lists already mentioned.

So who wants a former jailbird roommate from the 7th to the 17th cause I can't see going back and forth for Further and the Hold Steady.

It's in a new location but the layout of the Gold Circle is pretty much the same concept.

Remember that last tour, at least the Ottawa show, it was advertised as a show with Neko and then she was nowhere to be found.

I'm in love with Kathryn Calder so I didn't care but others were dissapointed.

Pavement hasn't released an album in 11 years. Not sure what that discussion is about.

And yes it's weird that there's a 2010 festival they're not playing.

Actually, AD, I'm pretty sure Pavement released a new album this year called, "Quarantine the Past" - it's a best of album, but it was technically released this year.

Is this the album you're referring to, Freaker?

Yup that's it, not new material just a new release and since they're touring in support of it, I was hoping they'd make the Bluesfest cut.

Anyone else wondering why so many spots are open on the Black Sheep stage? Only two bands scheduled most nights (6:15 and 9:30, previous years had 3), and nobody booked July 6 and 14, and huge holes elsewhere (no acts either Saturday night at all). Usually they're the most together stage, bookings-wise.

I was wondering that too, but I think they like to sprinkle more acts in leading up to the festival... it's good for press.

I get that for some of the late spots, like on the Saturdays. But a lot of them aren't exactly glamour slots -- there's only one act booked the first Saturday, at 1:45.

Also no hedliner the first Friday on the main stage, and in a few spots on the Subway stage. C'mon, Bluesfest, I can't wait!
