Northern Wish
When the first bass note hit and my hat literally almost pounced off of my head- all of my worries about the sound were put to rest. I have never ever experienced a bass note quite like that first one last night. Now I can imagine what that brown note is that people refer to.YT: Maybe it was that plate of "fries" that threw you off?
Freak By Night
That first bass note was my main reason for wanting to be there on time. My ribs needed rattling!

bouche
As I walked into the photo pit, I walked past the bass cabinets (woofers?) on the ground and got knocked to the right about 3 feet. I laughed...it tickled.

Esau.
Re: MMJI watched an episode of American Dad last night for some reason (I really never watch the show) and MMJ was in it, the entire show pretty much revolved around them actually - had the band in cartoon form, voice overs etc. Before I crashed out I hit here and FB as usual, and saw the reviews coming in about the MMJ show at bluesfest. Pretty irrelevant to this thread I suppose but kinda made me laugh considering the TV show was more then likely on while the live show was. Booche
By mid-set the band was already treating every song like it was a set ender. At 10pm, G-Fry looked at his watch assuming we were witnessing a set closer. He turned to me and was excited there was about to be another hour's worth of songs.......and each one of them could have been a closer. G-Fry and I were laughing about it the entire drive home. Glad to see we experienced the same thing Toddles.

Still waiting for them to post my Fogerty review from Tuesday night:http://www.ottawabluesfest.ca/dailynews Awesome.. I think most folks will agree that things don't get much sweeter than seeing a show like that in your backyard, amongst all your friends. ..but it's really just an appetizer for the Tea Party tonight. ollie
I still have an image from last night in my head. Did anyone get a photo of it? Cosmic ChrisC
I did not want to go to bed after last night's show. This is the show that I was waiting for at Bluesfest. I wish I could see it again. Oh, I get to look forward to Jane's Addiction now though.Tonight, I'll be getting there a little later than usual due to dinner plans, but I'll probably go check out Tim Robbins I guess, just because. And I might go check out some salsa at the National Bank stage if I need energy.
gentlemonkey
is tea party something not to be missed? i was planning to take tonight off. no, its probably something to miss- i was being facetious. I will check them out though, to see if maybe I was wrong as a teenager. I recently re-heard their first record, and it's actually okay. its just the page/morrison resemblances and tendencies that always turned me off..lots of flowy shirts and gibson les pauls played with a bow. I had no idea another academy award winner decided to become a rock star. Sounds like it'd be a great show in that funny, mockery sort of way. SaggyBalls
Shitty sound.Shitty ears.Nope. There's a time and place for a cannon kick and rock out mode and that's when things are rolling heavy, not leading up to it - which is what happened on Wednesday night. When buddy's playing bass and a few notes are waaay loud and in the same register as that explosion from the drumset and I catch it then I know my ears aren't shitty. Being close to the stage I could hear the bass player's rig (I was pretty much directly in font of it) and that's not what translated through the mains. The cab was mic'd and what I heard was not the bass notes as they came out of that speaker. The way bass and keys work together in My Morning Jacket, the bass guitar isn't always the integral low end but often works as a punctuant. At times there wasn't enough of it to get that huge thing going as big as it could otherwise have been. Glad that those times it wasn't the way too big that otherwise had the band playing those notes (cause it was the only option at the time to be consistent).I can't say that I have any idea what was going on up there re: monitor mixes, but it seems to my eyes and ears that the band at least felt it.Anyway, I know what I heard and saw distracted me a little from the concert and that was a real indication that the engineering wasn't transparent...which an experience like that demands. The set was great but by the end every song melted into heavy rock out mode and to me that suggests that the band was getting tired of having to play in rock out mode and finished their set before they absolutely had to - which might otherwise have been different without the Iron Maiden tribute band treatment from the Bluesfest FOH.Here's to MMJ touring with production supports next time through! Again...great set otherwise. And NW - Those fries were great weren't they?Never before had I loaded a plate of french fries with peppers and sauerkraut but it's not going to be the last time either.
