AD
Well, putting aside that The National (who are the worst) put this together, it looks like it could be a pretty interesting listen. From Exclaim.ca Way back in 2011, members of the National started working on a tribute compilation honouring the music of the Grateful Dead, and now full details for the Day of the Dead box set have been revealed. The whopping 59-track, five-hour-plus box set is due out on May 20 via 4AD.Originally rumoured to feature contributions from Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Steve Reich, additional collaborators like Stephen Malkmus, the War on Drugs, the Walkmen, Kurt Vile and J Mascis, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Fucked Up were teased last year. Well, the full official tracklisting has now been unveiled, and it boasts all of the aforementioned artists and then some.Jim James, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Perfume Genius, Sharon Van Etten, Courtney Barnett, Mumford & Sons, Lucius, Lee Ranaldo, ANOHNI, Angel Olsen, Wilco, Charles Bradley, Tallest Man on Earth, Cass McCombs, Tim Hecker, Lucinda Williams, Local Natives, Bela Fleck, the Walkmen, Richard Reed Parry, Real Estate, the Flaming Lips and Bill Callahan are amongst the esteemed list of performers that covered Grateful Dead classics for the project. The collection was produced by the National's Aaron Dessner, with Bryce Dessner and Josh Kaufman earning co-producer credits. All three also perform on a selection of the tracks as the house band alongside the National's Scott and Bryan Devendorf, Conrad Doucette, Sam Cohen and the Walkmen's Walter Martin. You can find the extensive tracklisting in its entirety below. The songs will arrive as a five-CD set, as well as digitally and in a limited-edition vinyl box set, with proceeds benefitting the HIV/AIDS non-profit organization Red Hot. Northern Wish
I can't believe that there are no contributions from Ryan Adams or Blitzen Trapper.
Hartamophone
Looks cool. And I have to say that even though I've enjoyed Jambase's "Songs of Their Own" video series, I'm glad this project isn't just the usual suspects when it comes to Dead tributes. The likes of John Popper and Reid Genauer are great and all, but I'm all for Dead covers by artists that aren't a big part of "the scene" Esau.

DevO
Really nice version of Black Muddy River in this comp. My favourite so far of the 4 songs I've heard. (I never thought I'd be giving props to Black Muddy River!)

Guest Low Roller
I am pretty excited about this compilation to be honest. All the versions I have heard thus far are very true to the original songs, with no non-sequitur interpretations. This should be very good. Booche
Thanks a shitton NW. Thus far I am enjoying this release as much as I had hoped to based on the early stuff they gave us. I just finished listening to FOTD and those fucking Mumford boys actually do a bang up job. I thought it would simply be a fluff piece, get in and get out sticking to the original as much as possible, but it has a cool little build to it that I didnt see coming....sure the style they employ seems to be all the rage these days but I thought they made it work for this cover. Rubin and Cherise is still a favorite thus far but I might be biased thanks to how much I have always loved that song and how it seems like it has always been deep vaulted when it come to Dead covers. I also loved Black Muddy River. Fucking loved it. Amiright DaveO
