Infinite Jest is a horrible, horrible book. The only reason I finished it was because I refused to let myself be bested by such a pretentious piece of crap. It's well-written in the sense that he uses language really well, but the plot is really much more interesting in theory than in execution. Essentially, it's a classic case of style over substance. So it was groundbreaking, yes, but not all that enjoyable. Like Yoko Ono. His essays are really good, though.
