  1. Got my weekend pass! Anyone else?
  2. Woah! Well I am pumped for tonight regardless. Could any of you Friends of Massey Hall lend your input on how the scheduling might go tonight? The ticket says 8pm. When do doors open, when would Paul hit the stage?
  3. Good news Skanks! A new Harry Manx & Kevin Breit album is coming out this month! From www.harrymanx.com New Harry Manx CD to be released on Stony Plain Records May 24th Stony Plain Records announces a May 24th release date for the new collaboration from guitar masters Harry Manx and Kevin Breit, Strictly Whatever. The pair’s third album together, Strictly Whatever is the pair’s second CD for Stony Plain and follows the critically-acclaimed In Good We Trust (released in April of 2007). A Harry Manx and Kevin Breit CD is always full of eclectic musical delights, and for Strictly Whatever each brought a number of different original songs to the table, plus unique covers of Bobby Hebb’s classic tune Sunny, and the John Lee Hooker chestnut, Mr. Lucky. Harry plays mostly baritone guitar, which adds a good bass-end to the tunes. He also plays kick drum and snare with his feet while playing the guitar, as well as the Mohan Veena, banjo, and lap acoustic guitar; Kevin played just about everything else.
  4. I love this book: "Kafka on the Shore" follows the fortunes of two remarkable characters. Kafka Tamura runs away from home at fifteen, under the shadow of his father's dark prophesy. The aging Nakata, tracker of lost cats, who never recovered from a bizarre childhood affliction, finds his pleasantly simplified life suddenly turned upside down. Their parallel odysseys are enriched throughout by vivid accomplices and mesmerising dramas. Cats converse with people; fish tumble from the sky; a ghostlike pimp deploys a Hegel-spouting girl of the night; a forest harbours soldiers apparently un-aged since WWII. There is a savage killing, but the identity of both victim and killer is a riddle. Murakami's new novel is at once a classic tale of quest, but it is also a bold exploration of mythic and contemporary taboos, of patricide, of mother-love, of sister-love. Above all it is an entertainment of a very high order.

  12. http://www.chromewaves.net/2011/04/the-wooden-birds-release-second-album-migrate-across-continent/ (I'm much more excited by the headlining story in this blog entry actually!)
  13. With a new greatest hits compilation in Golden Greats, No. 1 just released, Sweden’s The Soundtrack Of Our Lives have made a date at Lee’s Palace for June 4. Tickets for the guaranteed rock spectacle are $18.50 in advance. I know some of you on this board dig this band.
  14. Ocarinas are pocket sized. And you can work on mastering a cover of the ocarina jingle off of The Legend of Zelda!
  15. Great to hear some good news re: Neil's health.
  16. Nice additions! Zeus was all over the schedule last Summer eh. Looking forward to another weekend on the Island this summer.
  17. Happy Record Store Day! Anyone get a copy of the Phish record? I know that Criminal Records (Queen St, Toronto) was going to have one or some. Probably gone by now, maybe not though. I just phoned Soundscapes to see if they had it - close enough to home that I'd brave this shit weather to go get one - but they didn't get any.
  18. It won't stream for me. Arghh. I've tried in Firefox and Google Chrome. Is it not working for anyone else?
  19. Yeah Bouche I remember that - was supposed to go to that one too! They've done a few shows now at the Dakota and seem to have a monthly gig there, but they got bumped a few times. The shows are always early (7-10pm) which is kinda too bad as The Silver Hearts go best with high levels of booze consumption. There's a PTBO show coming up too.
  20. Peterborough`s The Silver Hearts are playing tomorrow night at The Dakota Tavern, 8-10pm, $15. Just so ya know. Looking forward to it!
  21. Yep! No one off of jambands.ca though unfortunately. There were only 15 entries. Sorry dudes! If anyone`s coming, come say hi to me at the CPAR table beside the merch. (CPAR = Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief)
  22. I couldn't justify it this time with all of the money I've been dropping lately on concert tickets, including about $180 for Paul Simon at the same venue just a few days before the Neil shows. This would have been my 4th time seeing Neil Young in person, including the time I saw him walking along Charlotte Street in Peterborough.
