  1. Hooray! Thanks for egging me on in my angry/frustrated/elated/hopeful/impressed/confused/joyful/shy/proud/explosive times, T. (and thanks to you timouse for posting in this thread...even though there's another)
  2. I sure know some fishy things have already happened today for me. I can only imagine that you've had grins as big or bigger. Enjoy.
  3. depends on who it's on PalacePrincess.
  4. I didn't think you were getting at anything else, ollie, and you're right, d_jango - it's definitely a lot easier to dislike Ignatieff - but on the other foot he sure seems smart and that's way more important than likability to me. Sometimes Harper seems very likable and appealing on a personal level when he's appealing to the 'chill out dude...let's not get ahead of ourselves' vibe I sometimes want to get from politicians. When I feel he's saying 'we're sticking to our guns to stick to our guns' he seems a lot more smug about it to me...like in the election debates. It's a fine line. too bad it's between smug and likable. If it were between smart and overgenerous it would seem a bit easier to take...kind of like routinely leaving the change from a $10 on a really fast $8 meal in the busiest restaurant in town to an overworked waiter. More than I'd need to leave as per protocol...not really that much to spare...even though it adds up again and again.
  5. "They are certainly more sophisticated than the ugly jabs they took at Dion last summer." You think so? Perhaps 'less unsophisticated', but something has to be sophisticated to begin with to really use the word 'more'... ...at all? I don't think so. Wasting our time by making us think they're doing something worthwhile? Nothing new from the Conservatives. Wish there was something new from the right. I keep waiting and waiting but nothing. When it's an ABSOLUTE necessity to fix EVERYTHING (as opposed to this being the time when we have severe infrastructure, health, education, military, agriculture, energy, and industrial woes) I hope there's a guy as collected as Iggy that can deal with it half as well...if Canadians are foolish enough to fall for this weak campaign that is. To be fair, I'm not talking about spending, but forward-thinking action. 'Spending within our means' is one thing, but doing very little to INCREASE our means is another, and working towards that on all fronts is something that could be done in 3 election terms. I hope Harper gets down to it and works it out for us. I know that the role of the opposition is to oppose, but I do think that, considering what I've seen/read, Gov't could push ahead together quite a bit more and prove more cocsitently that a change is (or is not) needed. not that I'm looking to vote in another election, but the more I see stuff like ignatieff.me, the more I don't mind the prospect of another election.
  6. +1 to firewire. USB2 may have good numbers on paper but as far as what I've been told over and over from people using the gear, Firewire is better for sustained data transfer than USB. You'd have to get either a used macbook or a new macbook pro to get firewire on a Mac. Unless you know why you prefer macs, I'd say get a PC. What you don't know might just save you $500 and still get you a great computer for live production.
  7. Cheerios left me wanting more - their rich toasted scent, following with empty, unsatisfying air. The sugary milk was the centerpiece of a bowl of cheerios. I have never purchased a single box of that crap. Nice looking box of great smelling cereal.
  8. my bad...Kilrea testified the 'we could have just ratfucked you' line...but if that's found to not perjured Kilrea...is the nail in the coffin.
  9. Why should opportunism matter? he was bribed. O'Brien even just admitted to it.
  10. My birthday's in May but my folks did it in October (probably all the time...but the one that stuck fast tracked me out of mom a month early) Happy birthday tauruses and those on the gemini cusp...and of course the early geminis.
  11. You're pretty close, bradpitt1111 - when it gets to 'habit' stage, then - if problematic - it should be the duty of the individual to seek help in controlling his/her habit/compulsion/dependancy/addiction. Decriminalization of personal posession and use with sales of narcotics requiring license & taxation - natural products with less restriction - would be ultimitely fair and not only save us money and personal & societal stresses, but would add more to the tax base. It could arguably fund preventative medicine practices that most people have to pay out of pocket (acupuncture, herbalism, naturpathy, homeopathy, chiropracty, massage, nutritionists, dieticians etc.) and fund more addictions treatment facilities that are already a dire necessity around the country. Hell, if that were to happen then we could work for a state supported narcotics trade - high quality low cost - and also support the flow of Mama Coca (coca leaves, not cocaine) and related products into Canada that are unfairly controlled.
  12. "I find it very strange that it is not ok to stand with others while waiting for an elevator and let one rip, yet it's OK to just let 'em fly stand beside others while taking a piss." FARTS HAPPEN. Let's just hope they don't happen when you need to get to the 37th floor from the lobby.
  13. Too bad that stories like this make the 'boycott Irael' movement seem unimportant to enough people that could make a difference by looking into the products they're buying. Naomi Klein:
  14. I don't know...those would make most women feel sexy wouldn't they?
  15. (i haven't been on this website for hours) You're now chatting with a random stranger. Say hi! Stranger: horny girl? You: horny girl! Stranger: cool Stranger: asl? You: oh come on. You: like that matters now Your conversational partner has disconnected.
  16. Fantastic. I'm not entirely suprised...but not at all unimpressed.
  17. Stranger: buddy the elf Stranger: whats ur favorite color? You: depends on what I'm wearing Stranger: orly? You: I'm gonna say deep red You: but often blues and greens. Stranger: thats hot You: I could take it off if you want Stranger: sounds good to me You: alright. hairy pink it is. Your conversational partner has disconnected.

    Oysters

I read somewhere that oysters are among the shellfish that are both good for the environment (they filter water) and easy to farm. Way to not have a tuna party, guys!
  19. more money to find its way to the top. Do you really think we'd see a large percentage of that shift doing any significant good? I'm skeptical...however, less laws broken would equate to less crime and fewer criminals. that's worth more than the money we'd save.

Not that I want to (or specifically DON'T want to) see religious images on our license plates, but this is about FLORIDA license plates. It seems strange to me that the FL DMV is dragging their feet about this. It would be a lot easier to make graphics for the major religious groups (from the census information) as well as a 'freedom of choice' (to match the 'right to life' plate) and if they really wanted to get around this, they could have a self-submitted license plate graphic that the DMV has the ultimate right to refuse no ifs, ands, or buts that the owner would have to sign for. No more license plate debate, no more confusion... ...I guess the logical next step would then be license plates for every established community service group, like the freemasons, shriners, etc. "I ask then, not that we erect a gigantic cross on top of parliament hill, but that we seek some kind of middle ground, where things like license plates are deemed okay to depict the virgin mary, or the star of David, or whatever it is a person wants. They are license plates!! And then i would hope that one day, people won't feel the need to express their own fears or insecurities over what should be to them, such a trivial thing." -Birdy If the real threat of the KKK demanding their own graphic were to exist, then why not erect a giant cross on parliament hill, and if the KKK lights it on fire, we would then nab them for being a terrorist organization (unless they already are labelled as such...which IMO they should) which would rule them out. "I'm not saying this an easy task to conquer, but I believe it is one we should seek to figure out a way to conquer, for the reasons I expressed above. It's like when you identify something as a problem, and then avoid dealing with it. The problem doesn't go away, and 9 times out of 10 only becomes greater." -Birdy It seems a bit funny to me that this kind of discussion turns to church vs. state or religious debate since my natural reflex is to find ways to include everyone so as to avoid an unnecessary religious debate - where either side asserts that it is correct instead of finding a way to work together. Not that this forum necessarily represents THAT, although if it didn't get to an aside on government representation & secularims/atheism, and if bradM wouldn't have summed it all up so neatly it might have.

Since the Islam cross is a common police/shriner symbol across the USA and the fact that it's Florida, I don't think Islam crescents and Stars of David would be just as important to put on license plates as an emaciated and writhing (or rotting) crucified Jesus Christ. There are already pro-life, family values, and family first plates. Religious plates aren't too far off. (Religious) piety is a stereotypically American trait that isn't politically incorrect - though touchy to some. There's something about personal liberty that Americans hold near and dear to their hearts and, to many, their souls. To assert that people should NOT behave a certain way pertaining to their religious freedoms is akin to asserting that someone SHOULD behave a certain way in which they are not accustomed. It would seem to me that an individual's religious/spiritual experience is incredibly important to hoist in support as long as it doesn't infringe on the basic human rights or personal well being of others...and a license plate certainly fits within the acceptable range. Since the personal nature of one's religious experience has been guarded and supported for so long, open discussion is often unfathomable for people - so religious imagery (like christ) is much easier to manage non-discussion with an overall assumed connection (thanks, Birdy) I really wish that people everywhere could and would put into words what they feel and experience, as there could be far more overall societal unity. Imagine a world where more people could understand and accept God openly and with varying perspective. I can. Can you?
  22. It's sad that the pension funds were not protected. Somebody LET that happen.
  23. No they're media for the 'social control' not the actual social controls. The actual form of design is the building, not the activity of the design and construction which is what Architecture is. The plans and printouts and prints are just tools to help bring the idea into form. Aren't you a University grad? Anyway, One can USE these things for their aims. These things are not the end goal or form. All too often, precision counts for so little while it makes a huge difference in personal understanding - just as discussions on drugs and guns rarely get finished while glazing over details & smoothing over edges because people tire of lazy communicators. Glad your heart seems to be in the right place, T. I hope we never have to 'deal with' something as vague as America's 2nd ammendment. It'd be a shame to have a reason to fight a tyrannical government. Thanks, M.O.B.E. - I almost forgot about the Armenian Holocaust (genocide)
