  1. I woke/got up about 7:45am, and intended to do my usual morning-after-a-late-show thing, which is have breakfast and go back to bed for an hour or two. But, since the Lauzon show was easy to handle (less than an hour, only four tracks, not complicated to track), I figured I could do that during breakfast, and get the upload started to run while I went back to bed. I got back up about 9:45am, found the upload had completed, and filled in the forms to get the show processed; since there wasn't much happening on the LMA this morning, it went through pretty quickly. The JSB is uploading as I type. Aloha, Brad

  4. Sneak? Why not dress up in seriously bright colours, carry a big banner or flag, and proudly strut through the streets, proclaiming, "I'M GOING TO SEE KING SUNSHINE TONIGHT! THEY"RE RELEASING A NEW CD! IT'S FUNKY! IT'S FUN! YOU SHOULD COME ALONG WITH ME!" See if you can start a conga line; snake it along the sidewalks, and co-opt other sidewalkers. Then, when you get to the club, bring 'em in, and give 'em a buck of two off cover. Aloha, Brad
  5. I don't think the Canadian telemarketers are required to use the American list. And according to http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/INFO_SHT/t1022.htm So it looks like there will be a Canadian list (whether it'll have web access or not is a separate question) in the future. The Canadian Marketing Association, however, has a Do Not Contact Service, but it sounds like when you join it, it only means your name won't be on any lists that get sent out from the CMA after that point; further, not all Canadian telemarketers are members of the CMA, so those that aren't won't be required to stop calling you. Aloha, Brad
  6. On the Bravo piece I saw, he talked about his vocal tunes, and how he hadn't thought of himself as a singer, but he wrote a song with lyrics, and his manager (I think) wanted him to play it, so he just did it solo with guitar, and sang it, and his manager was floored. Aloha, Brad
  7. True (but isn't snogging an activity that lends itself to fun messiness?), but at least it's Canadian. Whipped cream? Chocolate syrup? Honey? Bah, give me chunky fries, cheese curd, and gravy, baby, that's food worth snogging with! Aloha, Brad
  8. I think he draws influences from more than just flamenco, and, for free, yeah, I'd probably go. I saw him profiled on one of Bravo's weekly Arts & Minds programs, and he's got chops, and should put on a good show. http://www.pavlo.net/ Aloha, Brad
  9. Stay in for snoggly poutine. Aloha, Brad
  10. Thanks. I was planning on getting there between 9:00pm and 9:30pm, so that works out well. Aloha, Brad
  11. Guelph, Hamilton, and Toronto have had their turns, and now comes Ottawa's: The Jimmy Swift Band is having their Ottawa CD release party tonight at Babylon, with David Lauzon and Skratch Bastid adding to the fun: rocktronica, guitar (and more), and turntables. Who's in? Aloha, Brad
  12. I'm imagining the cultural mash-up mayhem that could ensue if Wassabi Collective were to be billed/promited as a "Western band"... Aloha, Brad
  13. I predict she'll have "Appetite For Destruction" on before 9pm... Aloha, Brad
  14. And you get pretty offensive when you sober up again. Aloha, Brad

  17. I remember being in Albany in 2003 (I think) and Rob Derhak ended up coming into the lobby, drunk as heck, trying to find out what room he was in...which would have been fine, except that he was actually staying at a different hotel... Aloha, Brad
  18. OK, I'm in...1.25 oz of Rowan's Creek Straight Kentucky Bourbon...mmmm.... Aloha, Brad

    JSB/ Lauzon

I'm glad you enjoyed the Lauzon. Was his set all acoustic, or did he play electric (and slide) as well? Aloha, Brad
  20. It was also a set-blender with Jomomma. http://www.neroland.com/logs/logs/2002/042002.html (For some reason, I may have missed that show; I'll have to check 2002 day-timer when I get home from work.) Aloha, Brad
  21. The Mavericks website says they'll have on-line ticket sales (for selected shows) working in the coming weeks. Aloha, Brad
  22. How much will the nero reunion show tickets be? Aloha, Brad
  23. Here's the set list from last night: Please Stand By Ultrasound 2 In The Movies The Great Asteroid Vampire Blues[1] > The Protester On My Mind The Rising Songs > 49 Tons Of Diesel Locomotive[2] [1] Neil Young cover. [2] Fred Eaglesmith cover. It was a short set (less than 40 minutes), but I liked it a lot. "The Protester" was the fastest I'd ever heard it played, and "Please Stand By" was one of the better versions I've heard. I'll be processing the recording tonight. Aloha, Brad
