Dr_Evil_Mouse
Toots and company put on a solid performance tonight. Nothing complicated, but well-delivered. Dang. That would have been my pick, but my daughter had rather compelled us into us going to Our Lady Peace. Good enough band, certainly; they sure have a kick-ass drummer. No shortage of drunken 20-somethings, either. (Good seeing ya again, btw )
Velvet
Hey OC, what style of reggae is Toots?
slavetothegroove
Spam Allstars were solid! Very groovy.
Dr_Evil_Mouse
Gotta say, too, that Spencer Davis, Joe Louis Walker, and (even) Xavier Rudd (thanks to new added members, imo) hit the spot.
Rob Not Bob
I went with the all oldies set of Spencer Davis, Yardbirds and the Zombies. Was not let down, excellent sets throughout and Colin Blunstone's pipes are pristeen, he hit all the right notes.
phorbesie
i watched a tiny bit of ice cube, some yardbirds, a bunch of zombies, some toots and some spam allstars. i think the zombies were one of the more interesting
ollie
Ice Cube was a big disappointment. Only one verse of Straight Out Of Compton? I realize it's an ensemble piece but there's no way he could have rearranged it? Man, what a letdown!Xavier Rudd's appeal continues to elude me. Dr_Evil_Mouse
Xavier Rudd's appeal continues to elude me.What he does, he does fine, but I happened across some guy at the Algonquin College pub last year who did precisely the same shtick (and in front of maybe fifteen people), who I enjoyed more. I was very impressed with Rudd's new percussionist, though.

Freak By Night
I'm totally stoked for tonight. We're finally getting some decent summer-ish weather too.I was very impressed by the Spam All-Stars last night, even though I only caught the final 20 minutes of their act. rubberdinghy
Get there early-ish...Didn't they have a show where one of the stages was above capacity and stopped letting people in?I seem to recall that happening, may have been at City Hall though. Northern Wish
Les Claypool is officially listed at the Hard Rock Stage for 9:30 on Saturday night.Black Mountain vs. Drive By Truckers vs. Les Clyaypool.FUCK!
ollie
I seem to recall that happening, may have been at City Hall though.I remember that happening at one of the smaller stages there but I don't *think* it's happened with the big stage. I'm getting there as early as I can regardless.

ollie
So, Gene is saying in the papers that he's not going to obey the time and sound by-laws....KISS start at 8:45. How are they even going to play a 2:15 set to get them to 11? Gene Simmons is just kayfabe-ing it up for the media.
bungopony
Toots rocked a fantastic show, I thought -- better than the Wailers last year, great mix of reggae and ska, with the man (he's 63) showing plenty of energy and passion. Xavier Rudd also put on a sterling set, though watching an older gentleman getting hauled out on a stretcher in the middle put a dent on the party a bit.I've never heard of a sellout at this site, though I suppose it's technically possible. Interesting to see if KISS eclipses Van Morrison for biggest mutha concert. Likely will.
