Velvet
I found out recently that Tainted Love wasn't originally recorded by Soft Cell.
bouche
a couple of these hit me like a ton of bricks. "Girls just wanna have fun" is a very cool original. It's wild that other people can have massive success with someone elses tune.
larry_llama
istanbul was crazy - identical even in the "quirky" bits - just slower and less nasal-y.I should find some obscure covers and become a pop sensation on someone else's work! zero
I think it's a testament to the Golden Dogs viscious live show but I didn't realize that 1984 was a cover of McCartney (okay that's boneheaded) but their version of Harry Nillson's Me and My Arrow just sounds like a Golden Dogs original. timouse
the first time jennifer saw a diesel dog show, they did "(will it go round in) circles" by billy preston. she thought that it was a dd tune and asked me why they weren't famous when they write songs that good... Rob Not Bob
And the woman whose version Soft Cell learned it from a) toured with Jerry Garcia Band, and killed Marc Bolan.
Rob Not Bob
Some of these actually disappoint me that people didn't realize they were covers ... I mean, "Hey Joe" was covered by a bunch of bands before Jimi hendrix got to it (then again, I remember breaking my cousin's heart by telling him Hendrix didn't write it).
