I have an old Cooking the Watkins Way cookbook. It's beat up, browned pages and used almost exclusively for the dessert recipes. Here's a great recipe they call "Grandmas Cookies" 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed 1 cup butter or margerine (blasphemy) 1 cup vegetable oil 1 egg 1 tablespoon milk 3 1/2 cup sifted flour 1 tsp Cream of Tartar 1 tspn baking soda 1 tspn salt 1 tspn vanilla extract 1 cup rolled oats 1 cup coconut 1/4 cup chopped nuts 1/4 cup raisins Add sugars to butter and cream until fluffy. Add oil and beat. Add egg and milk and continue to beat until combined. Sift flour, baking soda, cream or tartar and salt together. Add it to the wet ingredients a bit at a time. Add rolled oats and mix. Add coconut, nuts and raisins and mix. Drop by teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet and lightly flatten with your fingers. The dough will be soft. Bake at 350 for 8-9 minutes. Yields 10 dozen. (9 for Davey Boy, 1 for you and 1 for your beautiful gal).
