[color:green]Music. Art. Ecology

Part experimental art show ,part kick ass concert, part feast , part field party.

For us, all of us. You, me, our friends, strangers for now, kids, families. Build community.

A music line-up like the best mixed tape you ever crafted…covering the sounds from channel to channel on the airwaves.

Intimate crowd, wide open spaces. Land and love. Sound. Sound. Sound.

Commitment to the best in eco conscious festival practices, commitment to enjoying life without lectures.

Balance. In the moment, the experience, the friendship, the living.

Site

Sonic Orchard 2008 takes place at Kimbercote Farm, a 110 acre environmental education and social activism facility located in the Beaver Valley , part of the breathtaking Southern Georgian Bay area. The valley is part of the Niagara Escarpment – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to the meandering beauty of the Beaver River. Established in 1959, Kimbercote Farm functions as a retreat, an organic farm ,a laboratory for intentional community research, and an environmental education outreach centre .The site is graced with immense natural beauty best explored by the numerous hiking trails and also is home to a stone labyrinth and a straw bale demonstration building.

The music stage faces a natural amphitheatre. The camping areas are laid out into quadrants with central gathering tents…match a quadrant to your own level of participation (think…how late do I stay up singing?) so we can all enjoy ourselves. Red zone…everybody I know. Green zone…parents and kids not as interested in drunken wisdom and drum circles at 4 a.m.

One central great fire on the amphitheatre ridge. By day see the rolling grace of slope to shore, by night…the vastness of the stars.

Eco Consciousness

Awake, thinking, taking earnest steps to reduce consumption and impact.Values reflected in decision making, especially in regards to reducing the ecological footprint in five key spheres; Transportation/Traffic, Water Use, Land Use, Waste Management and Power Supply.

Free potable water…much less waste.

Free locally grown organic vegan catered meals prepared on site. Break bread…good bread.Produce grown across the hill by the great folks at www.neorganics.ca.

Bus transportation from Guelph and Toronto with shuttle routes from Collingwood and Thornbury.

Stages use a matrix of alternative power sources.

Carpooling incentives.

All vendors are juried for sustainable business and production practices; fair trade, eco friendly etc.

Printed materials will be created using vegetable based inks, recycled paper and a waterless printing process.

Site use (including capacity) is entirely dictated by Kimbercote Farm stewards to minimize land impact. Their interests are to protect the land…we listened.

Comprehensive sortable waste on site and pre entry awareness programs. Compost...feed the land.

Free kids eco-learning workshops. Snakes, lizards, science, goo.

Organized opportunities to explore the beauty of the escarpment and underline just why it is we should all be working to protect the earth. Caving, Hiking, Kayaking, canoeing. http://www.freespirit-tours.com/ More details on this June 1,2008

Portion of proceeds directly benefit upgrades to the Kimbercote Farm facility and it’s fine programming.

Solar powered toilets with biodegradable supplies.

On site environmental education ..a rich community of passionate people with a wealth of information.

After we have done our best to reduce, reduce, reduce…carbon offsetting.

Vendors

A very limited number of vendors will be allowed on site. You must create an original or unique product that meets our standards of eco production methods (fair trade, organic, sustainable resources etc)We must also be confident that your packaging and booth itself will echo our commitment to low waste production.Applications available May 15.

Artists

We will be commissioning three non permanent art installations for the festival. Details will be available by May 15.

If you are interested in displaying your artwork at the event we’d love to here from you. Packages will be available May 15.

Workshops

Several free workshops will take place over the weekend for attendees to participate in. Have an idea?

Let us know…guidelines available May 15.

Work Opportunities

The festival will be hiring in June 2008

Look for job descriptions and applications May 15.

Some of the jobs available will be ;Ticket takers, entrance staff, security, waste management, stage hands, clean up crew, bus leaders etc.

Volunteers

Are there tickets available for volunteers? Yes.. but we are doing things a bit different then you may be used to.

People who wish to access volunteer tickets must first let us know they wish to be placed on the volunteer ticket list as numbers are limited. Once we confirm you are on the list you must complete 15 hours of volunteer work in your community at an institution we would recognize…like not your mum.

We then need you to have the director of the organization sign a form acknowledging that you completed the hours.. and that the placement was NEW and begun because of Sonic Orchard.

Once the form is received and reviewed we will mail you your ticket! You are then free to enjoy the festival on the same playing field as a every paying attendee.

We are asking that all attendees pitch a hand to on site activities…create and manage your own community.

Tasks will be posted on the site by July, a task board will be set up on site etc.

Thanks also to AD (The Luckless) and edger (Fat Cats) for helping my queries get to the right person (and not just their junk email).

FOOD!!

Neorganics actually planted all the veggies we will be eating when I was up there for a photo shoot awhile back...food just tastes so much better when a cute farmer sweated on it.

Some of you know the lovely Kelsey Carriere (co-creator of Streets are for People and Pedestrian Sundays in Tdot.)Kelsey's new business Rising Sun will be baking FRESH, local grain breads for the fest.

Oh..I just got given a gazillion kiln sticks and hardwood dowels if anyone wants to create some "to be burned" sculptures!
