Festival Headliners- Ottawa

Northern Wish

Recommended Posts

Looking for ideas for a couple of things I am involved with this year......

1. Who would you like to see headline the Ottawa Folk Festival?

2. If a 2 or 3 day festival was started in Ottawa on a much smaller scale than those already going, who would you have interest in?

For question #1, try to think in the $10,000 to $100,000 range.

For question #2, think in the $500 to $2500 range.

Thanks a bunch!

Maybe I'll make it easier. How about a list of bands that you would like to see in Ottawa who haven't really been around these parts in the last while and would be considered affordable and attainable on normal scales (ie. No U2, no Springsteen, no Arcade Fire etc.).

Really looking forward to see what you spit out. Yes its my job but I can't see to think of anyone right now.....

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals w/Mandy Moore? They gotta be good for under 100 G's.

Yes I really just wrote that. I've been going through my cd racks, show binders etc. but as unbelieveable as it is, its easy to forget about some. For example: Bruce Hornsby. That one came to me at about 2am while I was sleeping last night......I would liken this to editing your own essay- you miss simple spelling and grammar mistakes.

But Holy Fuck is a good mention, I'll look into them.

Keep em coming there is some gold in those lists!

I'm a little confused here, does the Ottawa folk fest book artists in the same fashion as Blues Fest? By that I mean, folk (or similar genre of music) is not the primary focus when considering bands. Say in the fashion of other Canadian folk fests, Mariposa, Edmonton Folk Fest, Calgary Folk Fest etc.

I only ask since you mention that Holy Fuck is something you'll look into, have they changed their style of music? Just curious is all.

No the Folk Fest still books artists that are "folk music" but the definition of that is very subjective. I think you will find the Calgary Folk Fest to be one of the most progressive as far as booking "new" acts. But even they wouldn't touch HF......

The HF comment was half in jest at Booches post calling me out, and half related to the second part of the question regarding another fest in Ottawa.

I wouldn't exactly call Broken Social Scene, Spiral Beach or Rufus Wainwright folk, but we featured them last year on our Main Stage to the delight of many.

Makes sense. I was just wondering was all. Just seemed a bit odd for folk fest. Your right about Calgary (after looking up recent past artists), its been quite awhile since I really followed what was goin on in the festival scene though, so I'm sure I'm outta touch.

Booche, thanks. I did read that originally, but my mind was focusing on the folk festival part and I just took part two to mean smaller folk festival.
