I was thinking about this thread yesterday and thought I would revive it. I was thinking about how people say they won't tip if the service was bad. I honestly can't remember the last time I got bad service at a restaurant. There have been times when the food was not as good as expected, but any decent restaurant has professional and well-trained servers, and the service is almost always good, if not excellent. The only places I consistently receive lousy service are the fast-food joints - Subway, Burger King, etc. And you don't tip anyway at those places.

Western economies were doing just fine when we made our own clothing, electronics, toys, pet food, and household goods. Everything was of much better quality and safer too. What I'm proposing (a boycott of goods made in China) is just wishful thinking. It ain't gonna happen in a society where shopping is like religion.

I disagree with just about everything in your post. It doesn't take very much effort to look at sub-forums. Sports affects me way more than politics does. Videogames, not so much.

The only boycott that should happen, and the only boycott that would have any real results, is for us (North American consumers) to stop buying crap that's made in China! This would really bring that country (not to mention Walmart) to its knees.

In Canada, McDonald's had these things on the menu about 25 years ago. I had one, it was enough to keep me from ordering another.

Doubtful. Consumption may decrease somewhat, but what's more likely to happen is cigarettes will be produced and sold illegally. I could see people growing their own tobacco if cigarettes were made illegal. Read up on prohibition of alcohol in the US 1919-1933. Alcohol was banned in the entire country, but somehow a lot of people managed to go to bars (speakeasies) nightly, while organized criminals got rich.

Wow! You hit the nail on the head there. Banning marijuana has totally eliminated its use. I don't know why they haven't thought of banning cigarettes.
