  1. The Souljazz Orchestra 2006-11-04 at Le Petit Chicago in Gatineau, QC. This was a great concert/night. They started early (like 9:40pm), did three sets (the first two about 40 minutes each, the last about 60 minutes with two encore songs, including a repeat of a song from the first set because the crowd was screaming for it ), and got the crowd dancing (including couples actually dancing with each other), even to the point of friends on the floor pulling their friends who were sitting up onto the floor. Add in Belle Guelle and Coup de Grisou on tap, have the show end early (like 1:30am), and I'm just about funned out. Aloha, Brad

  3. I want to write a song in which the above quote is a featured lyric/verse. Aloha, Brad
  4. I'll only go if I can get a ticket in the taper's section. Aloha, Brad
  5. bouche, I know I've got the full-show MP3s on the hard drive of my machine at the office, so I'll see what I can do on Monday; if I can get them home, I'll try to sendspace them to you. Aloha, Brad
  6. They were originally scheduled to play at THAT PLACE on Canada Day, but cancelled. I saw them back in August at Dekcuf, when they opened for Elbeejay. I know Pablo Sanchez likes them a lot, but I wasn't really hot on the set of theirs that I saw. Their music is on the loud/aggressive side. There are a few songs on http://www.myspace.com/acresband and their Aug. 19 Dekcuf show is available in MP3 form from http://mockingmusic.blogspot.com/2006/08/acres-could-get-as-big-as-their.html which claims I'd be cool with seeing them on a bill with another band I was aiming to see, as I'd like to give them another chance and see if their music grows on me. Aloha, Brad
  7. OK, this I agree with. (I also think that appreciation by other songwriters is the mark of a good songwriter, independent of appreciation by the public.) Aloha, Brad
  8. What about Bob Dylan? If songwriters (of the latter half of the 20th Century) were to be ranked, his name would be at the top of the list, and he has a strong following and appreciation from both songwriters and listeners. Aloha, Brad
  9. Has The Bayou re-re-opened? Aloha, Brad

  11. I'm staying in, but Marc Charron (of Lure) is playing at Darcy McGee's on Sparks St. I think he's also performing before that with The Cheap Seats at The Thirsty Scholar. If you're into African drumming, there's an evening of it on tonight at the First Unitarian Congregation, featuring Leo Brooks, among others. Aloha, Brad
  12. The Souljazz Orchestra is playing at Le Petit Chicago in Hull on Saturday night. The doors open at 9pm, and it's $10 at the door. I was there for a Mr. Something Something show back in March, and liked the place a lot: it's a funky little bistro/club, with an intimate (nice/upscale) feel and a good selection of Quebec micro-beers. Anybody else up for this? Aloha, Brad
  13. How about The Pretendests? Aloha, Brad
  14. If you go with the one on Lombard Street (I did), there's a special rate for The Opera House. Phone them directly (416-367-5555) and ask about it. I was quoted $110 (usually $125) for the night, and breakfast is included. Lombard St. is also closest to the venue, I think. (My plan is to walk to Queen St. E., and take the street car.) Aloha, Brad
  15. I ordered my ticket (and booked my hotel) today. Aloha, Brad
  16. They did a show last week at Centrepointe Theatre, and one of them, along with Mr. Canoehead, were on a Rogers daytime show. That show got me in the habit of patronizing tractors. Aloha, Brad
  17. For a brief second of mis-reading, I thought bouche had started a pinned topic offering private massages... Aloha, Brad
