I'm surprised to see The Stage Names at the top of your list. I like it, but think it was a disappointing follow up to Black Sheep Boy (which I thought was absolutely brilliant).

Also surprised to see Ashtray Rock, which I thought was complete garbage.

I like Stage Names better.......

And I thought you had come around on the 'tray Rock disc? Its no Khyber, but its pretty fuggin good (after 4 or 5 listens).

"we were dead before the ship even sank", is at the top of my list now, and will probably still be there in 2 months when the year is over.

surprised only one other person has mentioned it, and it came as an afterthought. that album is all kinds of awesome.

i'm still undecided on the album as a whole and where it goes in my top 10 (it will definitely be there) but I gotta say that Spitting Venom is easily one of my favourite riffs of the year. Classic Modest Mouse there.

I don't know if the new Eagles album is going to make anyone's list around here. Check out the review from The Globe & Mail. Hilarious!

"With a double-disc of limpid country rock, airbrushed harmonies and rehashed snoozers, the Eagles compete with The Very Best of Mick Jagger for the year's most unnecessary album. For its first work of new material since 1979's The Long Run, the feathery quartet strains for legitimacy with the pretty, eco-friendly No More Walks in the Woods and a 10-minute war-attacking title track. The protest is late; the album is unprovoked and often hilariously poor. There are sporadic fine moments (the romantic cover I Love to Watch a Woman Dance), but nothing to indicate that a third greatest-hits compilation will ever be required."
