    Haiti

Yeah, thanks indeed Phorbesie! And here I was thinking Haiti's problems were because of a "deal with the devil".
  2. Ha Ha you're probably quite right AD! I wouldn't know, as I'm usually watching a sports channel (in HD) while the evening newscasts are on.
  3. Not a stab at you Jaimoe. This is a very interesting discussion and I'm glad you got the ball rolling on it. I'd like to raise the point that local tv could be doing a lot more to help itself (broadcasting in HD, more professional reporting, etc.) instead of taking on this "woe is me" attitude. A-channel news has had the "If it bleeds it leads" format since day one, long before CTV took it over. The CJOH news is very well done in my opinion, and is the top-rated local newscast in the region. It's just that I find Max unwatchable. His burping and flubbing up of words can't be attributed to his cancer or being old. He's been doing that since at least 1988.
  4. A-Channel Ottawa News: their reporters are ambulance chasers at best. CJOH news: When I tune into a newscast, I'd rather not have to listen the anchorman belch and cough. Max Keeping may be a great person and good for the community, but as a newscaster, he should have packed it in 20 years ago. CBC Ottawa news: CBC has tinkered with the format of their evening newscasts so many times, they've alienated most of their audience. None of these stations broadcast in HD, which I suspect contributes to dwindling ratings.
  5. 1 toke whenever FBN alludes to drug use
  6. I read that the Stones "unofficially" broke up in the late 80's, but $70 million in exchange for the Steel Wheels album and tour quickly re-united them! Not that I'll be making the trek to Tennessee, but that Rush rumor is intriguing.
  7. I'm claiming "The Rubric of Mere Puffery" as a band name. Thanks StoneMtn.
  8. Well, in hockey there's always 60 minutes of action, not including overtime and shootouts when necessary. I would guess that a typical baseball game has somewhat less than 11 minutes of actual "action".
  9. I must be getting old. I've only heard of six of those bands. I've seen four of them.
  10. Hey, I just realized something - wasn't Alex Lifeson involved in the selection and production of the new HNIC song?
  11. Thanks for posting that Kev. Makes me glad that TSN wrested that tune from the cold, dead hands of The Corpse.
  12. Sets the stage nicely for tomorrow night's game against the Habs - both teams coming off victories, both teams equal in wins, losses, and points.
  13. In my last year of college (1984-85 -yikes!) the teachers went on strike. Or was it a lockout? I can't remember. It lasted about a month. For me, what happened during that month off could best be described as an orgy of debauchery. Best year ever.
  14. Well I'm glad Eli's reign of terror is over! Don't worry Booche, Murray's days are probably numbered.
  15. bradm's mayoral platform: taper's section in every music venue with comfortable seats, complementary beverages and snacks you'll have my support!
  16. I say "meh". I'm still pissed that Mike Bullard's show was cancelled.
  17. Would my enjoyment of Avatar in 3D be enhanced if I was, like, really baked? Dude?
  18. Any of those early sci-fi movies are great. i.e. "Metropolis", "When Worlds Collide" If you can get the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel on your TV provider, get it. That's all they show! There's also the channel, but I hear it's not as good.
