zero
hmmm, i dont think of phish playing loving cup as a cover. i just think of phish playing loving cup as phish playing loving cup. i think covers have to be some sort of new spin on the original, that makes ya go, hey i know this, what is this? i think,No I think a cover is in fact largely a note for note cover of the original. A rendition is what I think you're referring to. For instance Jeff Buckley's rendition of Hallelujah is so supremely rendered that it eclipses the original in terms of sheer beauty and takes the song to places Cohen's gruff talk song never could have. fluffhead77
I concur. Buckley's Halleujah is so damn good, as is his version of I shall Be Released. Each of those are DEFINITELY better than the OG IMO.

edger
Not sure whether an instrumental depiction of a song would be considered a 'cover' or 'rendition'...guess I'd lean towards the latter...but what I do know is when Jazz is Dead came to The Comfort Zone (featuring none other than Mr Jimmy Herring), their whole show blew me AWAY!!Made me fall in love with the Dead again through a whole new light.
